About: I'm Sally, a second generation crystal miner from Montana
I like to joke I never had a choice in this life, I took rockhounding for granted as a kid and am so grateful I got back into it a decade ago. I knew what a leverite was before most kids knew what a crystal is. My family chased fine minerals of Montana, specifically Sapphires and Amethyst. The year I was born my Dad hit a world class pocket of amethyst scepters and since he named me after the claim he hit that pocket at he always says I was his lucky charm.
I touched on growing up chasing fine minerals, my Dad did not consider Agate a fine mineral and we didn't collect that. |
The material I cut comes from the gentlemen who taught my Dad how to dig. His name was Leland and he passed away a couple years go, his love for minerals lives on through my lapidary work. The rest of the material I cut comes from the shop I work out of in Bozeman. It belongs to family friends who have known my Dad longer than I've been alive. They were agate hunters who wanted to learn to find crystals and sapphires. My Dad taught them and now they've taught me lapidary. Everything around here comes full circle one way or another. Life is really magical that way and I love to chase it.
